Discovering Your Intuitive Voice Lesson 4, Part 1
This lesson has been edited into four parts (see below for parts 2, 3, and 4) and includes:
Discussion begins with a reminder that we are living through the best of times and the worst of times, with a reminder that the sun is still shining, even on the cloudiest of days. The clouds are only a covering over and metaphorically, there are days when members of our community are the sunshine and the reminder we need that the sun is indeed still shining.
Key points in this lesson:
paying attention to the messages we are hearing as we work on these art exercises will allow us to discern which are truths—those that are part of the intuitive voice, and which are lies—those that become the voice of our art critic.
Sometimes the art critic messages aren't single, audible messages, but behavior and thinking patterns. Examples are, perfectionism, over-functioning, under-functioning, busyness, etc. All are designed to disconnect us from the Intuitive Voice.
How slowing down & checking in with ourselves leads to discoveries about ourselves and the Intuitive Voice.
Discovering your intuitive voice is all about tuning into these messages and discerning which are there to help us create and live the fullest life possible.
Demos and exercises include:
Review of the last lesson's work and key points
Discussion of correcting issues created when using drawing medium and mark-making on our work
Deconstructing elements and discussing how to look at the fodder we bring to the table
Why I use watercolor paper to create my collage work, even when I plan to attach it to a panel or canvas later. How this use of supplies is a way to tame some of those fearful critic messages.
Exercise with a twist - working on a larger substrate and the new messages it will stir up
How the editing process in collage is similar to the editing process in writing.
What the intuitive response looks like when creating more intentional designs

Disclaimers:
*This course consists of edited videos of those live conversations and lessons, some of which will include observations that were specific to that time and season, but you’ll find it all relevant to understanding what your Intuitive Voice is, in and out of the studio. And for the very fact that regardless of the year, the season, the events happening out in the world, or in our own lives, we are human and life will include ups and downs, twists and turns, and unexpected events for each of us.
*This course was the first time I taught live online- it was shot in portrait view which can be somewhat limiting in what fits the screen. I've learned a great deal about how to set up and manage my camera to give you the best viewing experience I can since that time, thus it is not a reflection of a typical course here on the Canary Rising website.
