A brief reminder for the Community Membership group: our September Group Members Hangout on Zoom is today at 2pm central time. We’ll be discussing the upcoming schedule and changes to the membership tier along with our regular check in and time together. Hope you all can make it! (The Zoom link/time and login information is posted in the September schedule post here)
The voice of our internal art critic can, to the undiscerning ear, sound less like criticism, and more like having high standards. And what’s wrong with having high standards? The rules that we follow in our culture and our lives, can help us to avoid some really embarrassing situations, like showing up for that office party dressed for the beach when everyone else is dressed for the ball.
When you're in the studio developing your artwork, it can really pay off to work in a silent environment. Tuning in to listen to those messages in your head can help you identify whether there’s something more going on. Discerning between those messages that are really telling you that your work simply isn’t good enough to make the grade can be a carry over from growing up in an environment where high standards meant you only felt your parents approval when your performance was peak.
How’s it going so far for you? What messages are showing up to control you and hold you to unreasonable standards when you try to create?
